In a double whammy for fans of Apple's iPod shuffle, the company today announced making "the world's most wearable music player" even more affordable at $49, besides introducing an all new 2GB version for $69.
The iPod shuffle is about half a cubic inch in volume, weighs about half an ounce, and sports an Aluminium design with a built-in clip. The shuffle comes in a riot of colors, including Silver, Blue, Green, Purple, and Red (Special Edition).
Speaking on the occasion, Greg Joswiak, vice president (Worldwide iPod Product Marketing) of Apple, said, "The new 2GB model lets music lovers bring even more songs everywhere they go in the impossibly small iPod shuffle."
Apple's wildly popular iPod line-up includes the iPod shuffle aka the world's most wearable iPod; iPod Classic that can store up to 40,000 songs; iPod nano featuring video playback; and iPod Touch sporting a Multi-Touch user interface (UI).
Besides, there's a vast range of over 4,000 iPod accessories to choose from -- that include cases, fitness devices, speaker systems, and so on.
The new 1GB iPod shuffle is immediately available through the Apple Store, Apple retail stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers for $49. Meanwhile, the 2GB iPod shuffle will be available later this month for $69.
All versions of iPod shuffle require a Mac with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later and iTunes 7.4; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 2) or later and iTunes 7.4 or later.
In a separate announcement today, Apple introduced Xsan 2, the first major upgrade to its easy-to-use, high-performance, enterprise-class Storage Area Network (SAN) file system for Mac OS X
